Your MD Journey Abroad Leads Home
Return to Your Home State for Clinicals

AUC is guaranteeing* a limited number of Year 3 core clerkships in four of our core clinical hospital areas, including New York City area, Miami area, Detroit area, and the United Kingdom. This is an opportunity for aspiring students who would like to eventually practice in their home community.


*There is a limited number of guaranteed spots available at each site per term, and AUC cannot guarantee that all eligible students will be placed at the designated site in their home area. In addition to applying to AUC, being accepted, and paying the seat deposit before guaranteed clerkship seats are filled, students must meet all eligibility requirements listed below. AUC offers three start dates per year in January, May, and September. New seats will become available for each start. An applicant may have the option to choose a later start if spots have been filled.

About st. maarten island

St. Maarten is an island in the Caribbean encompassing 37 square miles and located approximately 150 miles from Puerto  Rico. The island is shared by the governments of France and the Netherlands Antilles, with the AUC medical school campus located on the Dutch side.

 

Although English is spoken everywhere on St. Maarten and the U.S. dollar is an accepted currency, the island as a whole retains many elements of its French and Dutch culture and heritage. St. Maarten’s central mountain range is complemented by pristine beaches, winding mountain roads, and small villages.

While attending medical school at AUC, you will learn about St. Maarten Island exciting blend of Dutch, French, African, and American culture. With residents from more than 90 different nations, art and music from around the world, and cuisine ranging from French to Vietnamese to American fast food, daily life is as diverse and vibrant as you want it to be.

 

RECREATION AND OTHER ACTIVITIES

AUC's campus in St. Maarten overlooks the beautiful Simpson Bay Lagoon and is adjacent to the 18-hole championship Mullet Bay Golf Course and Mullet Bay Beach. Our campus location enables AUC students and their families to access stunning beaches, diving, sailing, and sports activities, and countless local markets and duty-free shopping.

Students can also relax on one of the many beautiful beaches on the island. Some of the more popular beaches for medical school students and their families include Sunset Beach, Mullet Bay Beach, and Orient Beach, which are popular destinations for snorkelling, jet skiing, kite surfing, windsurfing, and parasailing. St. Maarten also features movie theatres, golf, and mini-golf.

Shopping is one of the most popular aspects of St. Maarten, thanks in large part to the island’s completely duty-free status. Whether you’re strolling down Front Street in Philipsburg, in a boutique in Marigot, or at a shopping center on the Dutch side of the island, you will enjoy great bargains on anything from cosmetics and jewelry to  electronics. St. Maarten offers a vibrant nightlife scene featuring live entertainment venues and nightclubs.

AUC’s campus is located on the island of St. Maarten. St. Maarten is a well-known tourist destination. AUC School of Medicine is located less than 10 minutes away from the “Princes Juliana International Airport” and within proximity of over many of the large resorts on the Island. It is also located in one of the more auent districts on the Island.  With daily flights to the US and other parts of the world.

Located about 150 miles from Puerto Rico, St. Maarten is about 37 square miles and is shared by the governments of France and the Netherlands Antilles (AUC is on the Dutch side). English is spoken everywhere, the US dollar is the accepted currency, and the island itself is dotted with beaches, winding roads, and districts. Completed in 1998, AUC’s Medical Sciences campus provides a unique setting for teaching and learning. From the moment they step foot on our campus, students can experience the powerful academic and technological resources in place to help them make the most of their medical school experience. In recent years, we’ve implemented innovative teaching programs, modern laboratories, supplemental electronic curriculum delivery, and other technological advances geared toward enhancing your AUC experience even more.

We offer on-campus housing, a fitness center, cafeteria and chef, ample study spaces and 24/7 on-campus security.

Accredited Institution

AUC School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). ACCM accreditation standards have been deemed comparable to U.S. medical school requirements by the U.S. Department of Education via the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), who reviews the standards that countries use to accredit medical schools. The NCFMEA has determined that the ACCM’s accreditation standards are comparable to those set by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), which accredits medical education programs in the United States.

You'll be eligible to apply for licensure to practice in all 50 US states, Canada, to the UK and beyond.

Qualified United States citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens are able to apply and receive, if eligible, federal student loans through the Federal Direct Loan Program, which includes the Federal Direct Unsubsidized and Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan. Qualified students can borrow up to the cost of attendance. Students who wish to participate are required to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).
